Notes from The Farmer’s Daughter – Maple Syrup Season 2021

We have some good news and bad news on the maple syrup front as we enter March 2021. The good news is that area maple syrup producers have started tapping their trees, and sap has already begun to run.

The mild temperatures we are currently experiencing are fluctuating enough to make local farmers smile as they set their spiles and run their piping to gather the sap. The sugar bushes in the area are in production, and it is full steam ahead as producers start to boil down their sweet gatherings.

Unfortunately, the decision to cancel Delta Maple Fest has already been made for 2021 due to Covid-19 and related restrictions. As sad as this reality is for the folks of Rideau Lakes and everyone else who usually attends the popular event, we can take comfort in knowing that
local maple syrup will still be available for sale throughout the community.

Though we might not be able to see the wide variety of maple producers we are used to finding in the bustling village of Delta on the Maple Fest weekend, we will still be able to source the golden liquid in all its glory from local grocery stores, shops, bakeries, farm stands and
convenient curbside deliveries.
